We are offering the following social events during the POETIC meeting. All are covered with the registration fee.

Please take 1-2 minutes to complete this form so we have a more or less accurate headcount for some of these [required for the Wed bus and Thu dinner]. Accompanying persons who wish to join some of the events (for a fee) can be included on the form, tickets can be purchased here.
Monday evening reception
We will have an opening reception on Monday 6-8pm in FIU's Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum, walking distance from the main meeting room. Participants are free to roam the galleries during the reception. The reception will have a cash bar.
Tuesday evening poster session reception
The poster session on Tuesday evening 6-8pm takes place in the Stocker AstroScience Center. Food will be served during the poster session and participants also have a chance to check out the center and the telescope(s) on the roof (stargazing if the clouds cooperate).
Wednesday time off: South Beach bus
We will have a bus available to South Beach, leaving from campus at the SASC building around 2pm returning to the designated hotels by 9pm. [Register for the bus using the linked form]
People are free to explore how they prefer.
Bring water!
We list activities below, people can join a tour of the Wolfsonian museum, whose collection focuses on art between 1850-1950 [see the form to express interest].
Dinner is on your own, plenty of options in every price category in the area. Note that Miami Beach automatically adds a flat service charge to any restaurant bill.
What to do? All of these are walking distance from the dropoff/pickup point, which will be around 10th St and Washington or Collins Ave.
- Beach (bring sunscreen!): umbrellas and chairs available for rental if desired.
- Go for a swim (the water is warm enough still, outdoor public showers available at most beach entrances)
- There is a pedestrian walkway that stretches along the beachside with sufficient shade if you wish to enjoy a pleasant walk
- Lummus Park has fitness, weightlifting ("Muscle Beach") and beach volleyball equipment if you wish to go all in on the Miami Beach experience.
- South Pointe Park: the southern tip of Miami Beach (20 minute walk along the walkway) has views on Virginia Key and Key biscayne as well as the cruise terminals/departures if that is something that interests you.
- Wolfsonian museum: nice, compact FIU affiliated museum in an art deco building, focuses on 1850-1950 art.
- The Art Deco Museum and Welcome Center. Gives historical context to the famous art deco architecture of Miami Beach.
- Follow up with a self-guided walking tour of the actual building highlights
- Jewish Museum of Florida: located in a restored synagogue, showcasing Florida's Jewish history
- (a bit further walk) The Bass (2100 Collins Ave) - Contemporary art museum in a beautiful Art Deco building. Known for its contemporary art exhibitions, large-scale installations, and public artworks.
- Lincoln Road: pedestrian area that has plenty of shopping and restaurants. Collins and Washington Avenue also have plenty of shops.

Thursday Dinner
