Description
Recent improvements in methods and algorithms as well as advances in
computing resources have enabled ever more precise studies of the QCD
finite temeperature transition and of properties of the quark-gluon plasma
using lattice gauge theory numerical simulations. In particular,
simulations at (almost) physical light quark masses allow for better
control of systematic errors. I review the latest results on the QCD
transition/crossover temperature $T_c$ and on the equation of state in the
temperature range relevant to current heavy ion collision experiments at
RHIC and LHC.
